The countdown is on to the Ultra-Trail Australia on 14 May. It’s only three weeks from this post, and all the runners I know are looking forward to it, partly just so that it will be over! I completed the Sparke Helmore Olympic Triathlon on Sunday, surviving the swim after some serious goggle malfunctions half blinded me. I came out of the swim a few seconds from last place, but after the cycle and run I managed to finish about middle of the pack.
I didn’t get any of my own photos, but there will soon be some on the event’s Facebook page.
Now that my annual triathlon attempt is over, I can focus on running for the 50km Ultra Trail run in the Blue Mountains in May.
I’m doing my first Olympic length triathlon this weekend. 1.5km swim, 40km cycle, 10km run. I think I’ll be fine if I can survive the swim, which is further than I have ever swum before. In my favour, we will have a slight current behind us, and it should be easier to swim in the ocean than my normal pool (salt water buoyancy!).
I have been training for quite a while and will be pretty relieved when it is over and I can drop the swimming and cycling.
I’ve stocked up my favourite stout at home, along with rocky road and caramel slice and a large bag of chips. If that thought doesn’t get me across the finish line, nothing will.
