Here are a few amazing things that happened around the world in February.
Golden Piton award for 14 year old Ashima Shiraishi
Climbing Magazine awarded its Golden Piton award for climber of the year to 14 year old Ashima Shiraishi. She climbs V14 boulder routes and 5.14a sport climbs, which is roughly twice as hard as anything I can climb. Perhaps more.
It’s a little sad to know that a 14 year old girl is a better climber than I’ll ever be, but it’s even sadder to learn that she was better than me by the time she was 8 years old. I might still be able to take her in a fight, she only weighs about 40kg, but those days are probably numbered too.
Skier Chased by Snow Leopard
In this awesome video a bunch of skiers run across a snow leopard while skiing in India. I love that they all stop to get photos until the big cat gets sick of them and charges the nearest guy.
Hueco Rock Rodeo
The Hueco Rock Rodeo was also in mid-February. Competitors have four hours to climb as many hard routes as they can, and the winner is the one with the most points at the end.
